Why This Site Exists
The consumer genomics industry is growing fast, but reliable information hasn't kept up. Most "review" sites are thinly veiled marketing funnels that rank providers by commission rate, not quality. We think you deserve better than that when the decision involves your complete genetic blueprint.
GenomeTesting.org was built to be the resource we wished existed when we started exploring whole genome sequencing — a place where the science is explained clearly, the comparisons are transparent, and the recommendations are based on real specifications and verified user experiences rather than advertising budgets.
What We Value
Accuracy Over Speed
We verify technical specifications directly — coverage depth, Q30 scores, accreditations, raw data formats — before writing a single recommendation.
Transparency
This site contains affiliate links and we earn commissions on some purchases. This is always disclosed. Our rankings are never influenced by commission rates.
Data Ownership
We believe your genome belongs to you. We prioritize providers that give you full raw data access (FASTQ, BAM, VCF) without paywalls or restrictions.
Plain Language
Genomics is complex enough without jargon getting in the way. We explain concepts in terms anyone can understand while maintaining scientific rigor.
How We Review Providers
Every provider comparison on this site is evaluated across the same criteria:
- Sequencing quality — coverage depth, Q30 accuracy scores, and platform generation (e.g., Illumina NovaSeq X vs. older models)
- Raw data access — which file formats are included (FASTQ, BAM, VCF) and whether access is free or paywalled
- Report depth — number and quality of health, ancestry, and pharmacogenomic reports included
- Privacy & security — HIPAA/GDPR compliance, data deletion policies, and third-party sharing practices
- Pricing & value — standard pricing, frequency of sales, and cost-per-insight compared to genotyping alternatives
- Turnaround & support — actual delivery timelines based on verified user reports, not marketing claims
Affiliate Disclosure
GenomeTesting.org is an independently operated review site. We participate in affiliate programs with several DNA testing providers, which means we may earn a commission when you purchase through our links at no additional cost to you. This revenue supports our research and allows us to maintain this resource.
Our affiliate relationships never influence our editorial rankings or recommendations. A provider with a higher commission rate will not receive a better review score. If a product is bad, we'll say so — even if it pays well.
