Key takeaways

  • For a 30X genome, Dante Labs listed $449 one time (Core) and DNA Complete listed $595 (Pro), both checked Oct 30, 2026.
  • DNA Complete's $245 Essential tier is 1X coverage. It is not the same product as a 30X genome, so compare Pro to Dante Labs Core.
  • Dante Labs now describes a finger-prick blood spot for its whole genome test. DNA Complete uses a cheek swab.
  • Dante Labs lists FASTQ, BAM and VCF downloads. DNA Complete lists CRAM and VCF.
  • DNA Complete's policy says all sales are final and lets it delete reports and sequence data after a membership ends. Download your files early.

The short verdict

If you want a 30X whole genome with full raw files at the lowest listed price, Dante Labs is the better documented deal. Its Core plan was $449 one time on October 30, 2026, against $595 for DNA Complete's 30X Pro tier.

DNA Complete makes more sense if you specifically want 100X coverage or bundled genetic counseling discounts. Only its Elite tier, listed at $1,295, offers either.

Neither company has been tested by us. Everything below comes from each company's own product, policy and support pages, plus regulatory filings and news reporting, all opened on October 30, 2026.

Who runs each company

DNA Complete and the Nebula Genomics connection

DNA Complete is not simply Nebula Genomics under a new name. ProPhase Labs, a Nasdaq-listed company, announced DNA Complete on November 4, 2024 as a wholly owned subsidiary. Nebula Genomics is a separate wholly owned ProPhase subsidiary.

ProPhase's November 2024 SEC filing says DNA Complete sends specimens to Nebula for sequencing, and also to other labs. Nebula itself was founded in 2018 with Harvard geneticist George Church as a co-founder. ProPhase announced its acquisition of Nebula in August 2021.

For shoppers, the practical effect is simple. Nebula's homepage now promotes DNA Complete and sends every purchase button to dnacomplete.com. DNA Complete's about page calls Nebula its "sister company" and lab partner.

Dante Labs

Dante Labs' privacy policy names Dante Labs International Inc. as data controller. Its EU representative is Dante Labs S.r.l. in L'Aquila, Italy. The homepage lists CLIA certification, CAP accreditation and ISO 15189, but it does not name the sequencing lab or give certificate numbers.

Our full Dante Labs review covers the company's reports and history in more depth.

Dante Labs' whole genome page gives several different report totals in different sections. We use the per-plan figures from its pricing table.

Coverage: 1X, 30X and 100X

Coverage, or depth, is how many times each position in your genome is read on average. Dante Labs' page puts 30X as each position read about 30 times. Higher depth gives more confidence that a variant call is real rather than a sequencing error.

That makes DNA Complete's tiers hard to compare at a glance. All three are marketed as whole genome sequencing, but they differ sharply in depth.

  • Essential, 1X: each position is read roughly once on average. That is far less depth than 30X, so it is not a substitute when you care about specific rare variants.
  • Pro, 30X: the standard depth for consumer whole genome tests, directly comparable to Dante Labs Core.
  • Elite, 100X: deeper than either company's 30X option. DNA Complete pairs it with more reports and discounted counseling.

Watch the headline priceDNA Complete advertises "from $245." That price buys 1X coverage. If a review compares $245 to a competitor's 30X genome, it is comparing different products.

If the difference between genotyping, low-pass and 30X sequencing is new to you, our guide to whole genome sequencing vs genotyping explains what each method can and cannot detect.

Raw data, reports and memberships

Raw files

Dante Labs lists three downloadable formats: FASTQ (the raw reads), BAM (reads aligned to the reference genome) and VCF (the list of variants). Its page also says you can request deletion instead.

DNA Complete's comparison chart says all genomic data is downloadable as CRAM and VCF. CRAM is a compressed alignment format, similar in purpose to BAM. FASTQ is not mentioned on its product page.

If you plan to run your own analysis or upload to third-party tools, check that your chosen tool accepts the format you will receive.

Reports

Dante Labs Core includes 50 core and longevity reports. Premium, listed at $548 for the first year including the kit, raises that to 830+ and adds new reports monthly. Premium + AI, at $649 for the first year, adds an AI chat feature.

DNA Complete scales reports by tier: 175+ health reports on Essential, 250+ on Pro and 350+ on Elite. New reports arrive at up to one, three or five per month respectively.

Memberships

Dante Labs' homepage describes its Premium upgrade as "$99 for the first year, then $99 a year." Core is a one-time purchase.

DNA Complete is less transparent on cost. Its refund policy describes memberships that renew and must be cancelled at least 24 hours before renewal. Neither the product page nor the policy listed a renewal price or billing period on October 30, 2026. Ask before you buy, and keep the answer in writing.

Refunds and cancellation

The refund terms are the clearest difference between the two companies.

Dante Labs

  • Cancel any time before the kit ships for a full refund.
  • Return an unused, unregistered kit within 30 days of delivery for a refund minus shipping.
  • No refund once the lab has your registered sample.
  • A full refund is issued automatically if the lab cannot produce a report because of a quality failure.

DNA Complete

  • The policy says all sales are final and orders generally cannot be cancelled, even before shipment, unless the law requires it or the company agrees.
  • You must return a sample within six months of purchase, or you permanently lose eligibility for the test, refunds and replacements.
  • Memberships can be cancelled any time, with access until the paid period ends. There are no partial-term refunds, and a lapsed membership cannot be restarted, only replaced with a new one.
  • After a membership ends, DNA Complete may delete your reports and sequencing information, subject to law and its retention policies.
  • UK and EU customers may return unopened kits with intact tamper seals within 14 days.

Practical stepWith either service, download every raw file as soon as results are ready and store copies in two places. Raw genome files are large, so plan for the storage.

Privacy and legal background

Both companies describe your data as yours. Dante Labs says its genome is "yours to keep," and DNA Complete says you keep full ownership and control. Both list HIPAA and GDPR compliance badges.

The fine print differs. Dante Labs' privacy policy says the physical sample is destroyed once results are available. Research use requires separate, explicit consent. After you deactivate an account, the policy says personal data is kept for 10 more years for legal obligations.

Nebula Genomics, DNA Complete's sister company and lab partner, is a defendant in a proposed class action, Portillo v. Nebula Genomics. The suit alleges Nebula shared genetic information with third parties including Meta, Google and Microsoft through online trackers, in violation of Illinois' Genetic Information Privacy Act.

Bloomberg Law reported on March 11, 2026 that a federal judge denied Nebula's motion to dismiss. These are allegations, not findings, and the suit names Nebula rather than DNA Complete.

Dante Labs' cookie banner says it uses Google and Meta advertising cookies to measure ads. That is common on retail sites, but it is worth knowing. Read both privacy policies in full before you send a sample.

How to choose

  1. Decide on depth first. If you want a true 30X genome, compare Dante Labs Core ($449) with DNA Complete Pro ($595). Ignore 1X pricing for this decision.
  2. Check the sample type. Dante Labs' whole genome kit uses a finger-prick blood spot. DNA Complete uses a cheek swab. Choose what you can collect reliably.
  3. Read the refund policy before paying. DNA Complete's all-sales-final terms leave little room if plans change.
  4. Price the ongoing cost. Dante Labs states $99 a year for Premium. DNA Complete did not publish a renewal price, so ask.
  5. Plan for medical findings. Consumer health reports are a starting point. Any result that could affect care needs clinical confirmation and, ideally, a genetic counselor.

FAQ

Is DNA Complete the same company as Nebula Genomics?

Not exactly. DNA Complete, Inc. and Nebula Genomics, Inc. are both wholly owned subsidiaries of ProPhase Labs. DNA Complete launched in November 2024 and can send samples to Nebula or to other labs for sequencing. Nebula's own site now sends shoppers to DNA Complete.

Which one is cheaper for a 30X genome?

On October 30, 2026, Dante Labs listed its 30X Core plan at $449 one time, and DNA Complete listed its 30X Pro tier at $595. DNA Complete's cheaper $245 Essential tier is 1X coverage, which is not comparable to a 30X genome.

Can I download my raw data from both?

Yes. Dante Labs lists FASTQ, BAM and VCF downloads. DNA Complete says all genomic data is downloadable as CRAM and VCF files and includes raw data download in its entry tier. Download everything as soon as it is ready, because DNA Complete's policy allows deletion after a membership ends.

Does Dante Labs use saliva or blood?

Its whole genome page, checked October 30, 2026, describes a finger-prick blood spot collected at home. Its support center also has a saliva collection guide, so confirm which kit your order includes before you collect.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

Dante Labs refunds in full before shipping and accepts unused, unregistered kits within 30 days of delivery, minus shipping. DNA Complete's policy says all sales are final and orders generally cannot be cancelled, with exceptions where the law requires it, including a 14-day right for UK and EU customers on unopened kits.

General information only. This article is not medical advice. Health findings from consumer genome tests should be confirmed with clinical testing before you act on them. A genetic counselor can help; the National Society of Genetic Counselors runs a "Find a Genetic Counselor" directory, and you should verify any counselor's credentials. Prices and policies change, so confirm current terms on each company's site.
